TS User Home Directories

Guys,

 

Very simple question I guess...but I'm getting confused...

 

What is a TS User Home Directory?

 

I have always thought it to be the User Profile... which I redirect... off

to a network share, as I do My Docs, Desktop and Application data. These all

go to there own individual Shares on the network somewhere...

 

Why would you redirect the User Home Directory?, I mean what is normally

stored here? and is it worth redirecting this also?

 

If you could show me how its implemeted in your environments, that would be

great.

If users work on their XP or Vista clients, and have a home

directory on a network share where they store their personal data

files, then most likely, they will also want to have access to the

same data files when working in a TS session.

If they store their personal files on both XP and TS in their

profile, this isn't possible, because you should keep the 2

profiles separate. So then you can define a Home drive and a TS

home drive pointing to the same shared folder on the network, and

redirect their My Documents folder to the same location. In that

way, all personal documents are stored in the same place and

accessible from everywhere, without mixing their different

profiles.

Vera, thank you... this makes sense now :)

 

The fact that TS Users ONLY have TS profiles and not normal XP/Vista

profiles as well, I'm safe not to need to specify a path to a Home

Directory.. users are told to save their personal stuff to My Docs (which is

redirected)... This was confusing me something chronic....
