Guest Winston C. Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Okay, so now that I've got my hardware drivers all in place (or most of them), I'm installing a couple of applications, but I've run into a bit of trouble. When trying to install "Mavis Beakon Teaches Typing Deluxe, v. 16", about a third of the way through the installation I get the message "Cannot update uninstaller log file. Current File: *.*" I had this app running on this PC before reinstalling Windows, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried installing an earlier version I had around (v. 12.01), but about two-thirds of the way through I got an error that simple read "Current File: *.*" In both cases, after clicking OK, the installation shut down. Because I got a similar error in both cases, I'm assuming the problem isn't with the software CD (both of which I've used on my other PCs), right? Any idea? Also, I was wondering what I should do in the way of antivirus/spyware removal/etc. This PC's never really been connected to the net before, so it didn't have much of a need for it. I've installed AVG free; anything else necessary?

If you do not browse the Internet and never open emails from people you do not know, you may not need AVG. You may want to consider a cheap router as a hardware firewall. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)

I've installed AVG free; anything else | necessary? AVG free will no longer be supported on 9X/ME by the fourth quarter of this year, try another Anti-V program. Install and update SpyWare Blaster, and a install a firewall even IF you are behind a router, and if this computer will connect to the Internet AT ANY TIME.. As indicated elsewhere, try installing MBTTD from the hard drive, and make sure you have all the 9X updates installed. You may have to update the Windows Installer(s) before trying to install the program, they should be updated during the 9X and IE update procedure. -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com -- _________
