Aaisha27 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 hi, i purchased a sony VPCW12S1E/P netbook. the previous owner of this netbook has changed the operating system from windows 7 starter to windows xp. the netbook was sent to me completely blank with no drivers, software etc installed. everytime i try to install the drivers and software etc they wont install..i keep getting an error message which mentions something about the version of the current operating system not being supported. is this because the operating system has changed. or maybe im not installing everything correctly. i havent got a clue! is there some sort of cd i can buy to automatically install everything for me? or how do i install everything properly including all the vaio software. also is it possible to restore the netbook to the original operating system it had (which was windows 7 starter). many thanks! RandyL Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 From what I can find it only supports Windows 7. If it's completely blank that means you have no operating system at all. Drivers can't install until Windows is installed. But yet the error suggests that there is a version of Windows installed but it is not Windows 7. The previous owner probably wiped the drive with the XP installation including the recovery partition. If so you will need to buy a full retail version of Windows 7 or contact sony to see if you can get the recovery DVD disks. VAIO : Sony Europe If the recovery partition was not deleted you could try these steps. VAIO Support Europe You may have bought a real lemon here. Why anyone would have installed XP on a relatively new NETBOOK is beyond me. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else.
