Hi,

Placing this query in email issues, but I guess it could be software or windows just as easily, so forgive me if this is posted in the wrong area...

I am really hoping someone will be able to help me fix this issue, as its hampering my work and I am left scratching my head as to the solution.

I have an acer aspire 1810TZ laptop running windows 7, using outlook 2003 (I was using 2007 but hoped going back would help...the reasons why are to follow)

For my work I need to import emails into a web-based database, the software is from Bond and is called Adapt (Bond Adapt FAQs for the Techie - Bond Adapt), using Oracle and SQL databases (I will not pretend to understand this area). It also use Java platform 2 se 1.05_14

Everything was fine, i ask Adapt to import an email, it takes me to outlook, i select the email and it imports it as a .msg file, with any attachments also saved.

Now, when i ask to import an email, it will not do anything other than show the header/subject in Adapt, no attachments, no .msg file. If i ask it to include attachments it will import a .txt file of the message but not the attachments.

Java Console gives the following message

SyncManager - version 2.1

WARNING - It has not been possible to download a resource required by ADAPT.

- Some client side functionality may be limited such as Printing.

- This is commonly caused because the System Administrator has restricted

- access to some part of the disk drive.

11-Jul-2010 09:43:20 com.bis.automationmanager.AMLoader loadAutoMgr

INFO: Automation manager client application handled command successfully.

The Technical team at Adapt aren't very helpful and say i should speak to my tech support; well I am self employed so I don't have one!

I also use an imac with Vmware fusion (adapt only works on windows) which has windows XP, and uses outlook 2003...and i have no problems with importing. My laptop had outlook 2007 so in vain hope rather than expectation i uninstalled 2007 and installed 2003, but this has not worked.

So is it Outlook restricting something, internet explorer?, windows 7?....really hoping someone can provide me with a way forward on this...many thanks in advance...:)

I looked at their site and have absolutely no idea what they do or why you are in business with them. Established in 1973 in the U.S.A supposedly but other information contradicts this.

Forgive me if I am wrong but I can't see this company as being legit. Too much conflicting or non-information. So I have to ask if you are spamming for them?

After all why are you contacting us for what is obviously an issue with them that they alone can resolve?

I could elaborate on so many aspects of this post but I think it's already clear.

Randy,

I understand your concern about preventing spammers from infiltrating your site, but I can 100 percent confirm this is a genuine issue I have and this is a genuine company. I am a recruitment consultant and this is a company that provides various types of databases/software to hold candidate and client information. They are a major provider here in the UK.

I only provided the link to show what type of software they use and to try and be helpful.

Like you, I assumed this would be something they would assist me on. But they said that as the java console was saying what i outlined above this is an issue with my computer rather than an issue with the software they provide, and that i should contact my IT support, which I was hoping would be this forum as I am self employed and do not have such support to call on.

I would be more than happy to provide whatever other information you or anyone willing to help will need.

I must admit to be curious as to the last comment, exactly what is it that is clear to you that this is anything other than a genuine request for help and support?

I hope this request is taken in the way it is intended, an honest and genuine request from someone who has only a basic understanding of the intricacies of windows 7, outlook, java and how they are (or in this case, not) talking to each other.

Thanks again in advance to any assist that can be provided

Sorry for the confusion earlier but we had to check. Of late, we have been receiving a lot of "help" requests that is actually spam in disguise. Most of these users just mass spam the forums once and then leave forever leaving us to clean up their mess. Since your post contained a link, you came across as dubious to us. But since you have been more than courteous to come back and clarify, it is apparent that you are not one of those damn bots. Once again, thanks for clarifying and sorry for the confusion. :thumb:

From what I read, I think that this might be a problem with Windows 7. Please try right-clicking on the program and select Run as Administrator from the context menu. Then, please try importing an email again and see if it helps or not.

Let us know how it goes though. Good luck. :)

Hi Barney.

It was exactly as Goku stated so well. I wasn't sure in your case so I left the post up and asked.

We are happy to have you as a member and I hope we can help. I apologize for doubting you.

Thank you too Goku. By the way I just deleted another post that looked very real but definitely was not. A full time job these days.

Firstly, thanks for the warm welcome :D

Sorry but you might need to give me a bit more direction here...I thought i had done as instructed (in outlook?) but i then got loads of error messages and it would't let me log in to outlook let along get as far as importing the emails.

FWIW - I have (with thanks to another support group, but with still no fix) checked the add-ons within IE, tried another version of java, checked i am administrator on the laptop, checked the advanced setting on internet options (and they now match with my desktop which does work ok)...

if it helps i can provide the link to the discussion to prevent you having to do any unnecessary checks :)

A link to the discussion would surely help. I have been trying to search that on my own but just got another popular Forum's thread by you with zero replies. Please post that in your next reply so that we can check what you have already done.

Funny thing is that you might need to give me a bit more direction here lol. :D

From what I understand, this "Adapt" is a web based software right? I mean you use it from a web browser to import mails into an online database? If so, can you please try using a different web browser like Mozilla Firefox or Opera (if they are supported) and see if you have any luck with it.

If not so, please give a description of how actually does the software work so that I can narrow down our options accordingly. ;)

By the way, for a software named "Adapt", this one is pretty rigid to adapt itself lol. Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

Cheers!

Hello Barney. That thread was indeed very helpful. BenTechMac really knows his stuff. :)

I have read through the whole thread and I think that the problem is a compatibility issue. I want you to try two things.

1. Run Internet Explorer in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP.

2. Run Internet Explorer as Administrator.

Do the second thing first and if it doesn't work, do the first thing and if it still doesn't work, try the first thing and then the second thing. Confusing, eh? :D

Just kidding. Let us know how it goes. :)

Sorry for the quietness, been a very busy week but at last its the weekend...

Well it seems that adapt is now not compatible with 64-bit; something to do with the version of java being not a good fit? and they are looking into what they can do to get round this...you mentioned running it in compatibility mode?....they have not suggested this yet...

I am hoping to hear more from them next week...

I now dont get the java console error message referred to above which is one thing but it is still not importing properly

thans for the help in the meantime...i may well be back!
