Wireless adaptors compatibilty.

Hi,

 

Hope someone out there can help!

 

I have recently moved back home and my parents are using a Wanadoo/Livebox router. I am currently using the supplied InventelUR054g adaptor to connect my desktop computer to the internet. However, the signal is not great and am getting slow connection speeds due to a low/fair signal.

 

It is too difficult to use an ethernet cable to connect via as one is upstairs and the other is downstairs.

 

Would purchasing a wireless adaptor like 'Belkin F5D8055ed Wireless N+ USB Adaptor' (Buy Belkin F5D8055ed Wireless N+ USB Adaptor. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .) be any help to me?

 

I have heard N+ adaptors are sometimes not compatible with certain routers, does any one know whether this would work? Or is anyone else using an N+ adaptor, could you pass on your thoughts?

 

I am running Windows 7 Ulitmate 32-bit if that changes anything?!

If your router is wireless N you will get much better performance/signal with an N standard adapter.

 

If not, you will probably see no change.

 

Best performance = N router and N adapter.

 

You could change your router if it is a G standard......

as my router is only supportive for G, what wireless adapter would you recommend for a reasonable price?

getting a new adapter should increase the performance slightly as i have read in many forums the Inventel adapters are renown for poor performance.

Belkin G adapters - I have always had trouble with.

 

Netgear W111's work ok.

 

These from Zyxel have worked for me many times.

If your router only supports Wireless G and you have a G wireless dongle then nothing will give it better performance, unless you reduce the distance or objects between the router and the device.

Personally I would wait until you upgrade to a wireless N router, there are many guises of wireless G/G+ all improve over the previous.

 

I wouldnt use anything other than wireless N though, and dont waste your money on anything less
