I have a Gateway Laptop with Windows 7, 64-bit operating system. I am trying to get my printer to work with this computer, an HP Deskjet 5440 series. I have tried for hours many different things to try to get this printer to work. I am at a point now where an error pops up when I try to set my HP as the default printer. (error 0x00000609 - double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network). The printer shows up when I select print, and I have run the windows updates and the driver updates through windows. I have done other downloads and such from the internet but those have not worked either. I uninstalled the programs I tried from the web, and rebooted, but still no luck with getting the printer to work. I am stuck and really need help fixing this problem please!

Hi samantha are you printing over a network of via a usb cable ?

Hi Samantha, have you tried the HP site?

Have a look here, scroll down the list till you reach Windows 7 64bit.

 

HP Deskjet 5440 Printer series- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

 

Unplug the printer, then uninstall any drivers or existing software. Then install the drivers from the HP site before plugging the printer back in.

Hi Nev sorry mate should have posted something earlier I spent about 3 hours with Sam other nite on gmail talk and via teamviwer we managed to get sams printer back to default and the info was sent to the printer but still no printing

Hi all, I have just advised another member with a similar printer problem, again a HP machine. In that case the member had already sent Mail to HP support and waiting a reply. I have had good results from their support myself, though it didn't resolve a compatibility problem I had with another program, it was the programs fault not HP.

So I would try asking HP support over this as those drivers they offer should work on W7.
