I want to take two Windows 2000 server and make virtual servers out of them.

Hello Scott,

What kind of Virtual machine? For VMWare you can use a free tool and for

Virtual server or Virtual PC use, you need System Center Virtual machine

manager or create an image and install the image to Virtual server or Virtual

PC.

Re: Physical Server to Virtual

Hello Scott,

I used it also and can say, it works great. But i have not used the GUI,

because of to less RAM, which creates an error. I have used Powershell and

works then without problems.

Best regards

RE: Physical Server to Virtual

In general, much the same considerations apply as when copying an OS from

one physical HD to another. You need disk-imaging software of some kind to

perform the transfer.

The transferred system may not boot if the original hardware IDE driver is

markedly different from that 'presented' by the VM. This can often be avoided

by changing to "Standard PCI IDE Controller" before imaging. If not, you need

to do a Repair Install on your virtual machine. (Yes, you even get virtual

bluescreens, and virtual kernel dumps, can't say it's not realistic <g>)
