I will try that as soon as the customer brings me tha laptop back. See the customer is quite far from our shop. I thought i could maybe help him telephonically to get his data, otherwise he needs to drive all the way back. I thought about the system restore or maybe using the recover my files program to get his data back.

thanx for the help

What is it that you are trying to get bac k is it his user account or the files and folders in that users account. THe system restore only Restores the OS not any files and folders that the user had.

If it were mine, I'd pull the drive as soon as I realised the mistake. That way you can be sure that the data is still intact, even though not visible.

Then run some recovery software over it from another machine. Could be a little tricky if an email client was used as the conatcts and account details will be gone but data files will be recoverable most likely.

Thinking it through, I wonder what System Restore will do re a deleted user account - my recollection is that it would reinstate a deleted account, but I can't be certain about the user files. I remember doing some experiments with this on XP and found that if you empty the cookies folder and then do a System Restore all the cookies came back. Whether it works on Win 7 or not I really don't know.

For recovery software, try GetDataBack by Runtime, org or Easues Data Recovery, neither are free, but can be used as trials to see what you can get back.

The technician who removed it is pritty clued up. He made sure it deletes everything of the previous user. We just didn't know there was any info & documents on it!!! sucky hey.

But i just got it fixed. I went into the C:/ drive and i also showed the hidden folders. there was a hidden folder named users. I went in there, there was a bunch of hidden folders. ( like deleted normally shows in recycle bin...) I just double clicked on it & it restored the documents to the My documents folder in the new user's account. Thanx for the help. I wouldn't have looked in the C:/ drive if you guys didn't send me there... lol thanx My customer is delighted that I could recover it.

N joy your days!!!
