If you remove the drivers through hardware monitor> device manager

then restart the PC, it should load the windows default drivers.

(CD/DVD ROM devices ONLY use windows standard IDE/loaded SATA drivers)

You mentioned firmware, this is similar to a MOBO BIOS and should not be altered unless the drive was having problems from the start, such as not being able to read/write disks

Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)

Asus P5K premium black pearl

4GB OCZ Reaper 8500

260GTX

Thanks so much for the reply, okay I have done so..in the corner of the screen it says "found new hardware DVD rom" but when I go into My computer nothing comes up?

Should it be set under "AUTO" or "DVD rom" in the BIOS?or should I leave that?

Could it be the driver software for the drives that I need to install?

Its od cos the PC picks them up and they open and close..I just cant access the CDROM folder on "my Computer"

Thanks alot for your help

what are you referring to in the BIOS.

Have you checked that the jumper pins on the back of the CD/DVD drive match its position on the IDE cable (master or slave)

after it detects the drive in windows, goto control panel>system>device manager> under the CD/DVD rom the drive should be listed double click it, select the driver tab at the top, then click update driver, it will search your system files, then MS update (if it does not find a driver then you need to get one from the manufacturers website)

Hope this helps, any problems let us know
