Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can buy a 8400GS PCI-E (NOT 2.0) with a FAN on it?

The reason I don't want version 2.0 is because I have a Dell Inspiron 530 and the motherboards PCI-E standard is 1.0a and 1.0a so I read on the net is hit and miss regarding it working with a 2.0 card. I've tried one 2.0 card and my pc wouldn't work with it.

Thanks

A 2.0 is backward compatible with 1.1 and 1.0 PCI-E. what you read as hit and miss is that certain VIA chipsets do not play well when you use a 2.0 in a 1.1 or 1.0 slot (this should be rectified by now in a BIOS update) as this issue was a while ago.

Hope this helps

Hi Dalo Harkin,

Thanks for your reply.

If what you say is true I'm confused as to why this card worked fine, but ran very hot (hence why I wanted to get one with a fan): MSI 8400GS 512MB DDR2 DVI VGA Out PCI-E Graphics Card | Ebuyer.com

And why this card didn't work: Asus GeForce 8400GS 512MB PCI-Express 2.0 x16 DVI Low Profile (EN8400GS/P/512M) - dabs.com

As far as I can tell, my motherboard is a Dell Inc. 0RY007 and my BIOS version is 1.0.18

Any ideas please, I'm really confused with this one.

Thanks
