sonya Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Hi, I am gaving some trouble making a playable dvd of photographs from my pc and I hope you can help. I have windows xp home edition, service pack 3, version 2002. I made a video of photographs in windows movie maker. I opened it with windows media player. I then clicked burn and a box popped up saying 'insert a blank disc, once windows media player detects new disc it will automatically start burning. The thing is I had inserted a disc (DVD-R) It doesn't seem to recognise that the disc is there. Is this because I don't have the correct disc driver? It doesn't say on the front of the driver which type it is ie CD or DVD, it just says 'super multi LG Securdisc' I did the following to try to find out - right clicked on my computer - properties - hardware - device manager - it says device type dvd/cd-rom drives, HL DT ST DVD RAM GSA H55N, any ideas ??? thanks Sonya Quote
RandyL Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Hi sonya. I don't think Windows XP Home has native support for burning DVD movies, just burning DVD data files. Since you used Movie Maker you need to save your movie in a format such as AVI or WMV then use the burning software that you probably have to make a DVD movie. Make sure your software supports the file type. Depending on what your computer is it probably came bundled with basic software to work with your DVD burner. Common types include Roxio, Nero or Cyber Link. However without knowing more it's possible that your combo drive can only burn CD's and read DVD's, not write to DVD. That would explain why it can't detect a blank DVD. Many older XP systems only have a read DVD drive. Quote We are all members helping other members. DSTM Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Hi Sonya. I am pretty sure you are able to burn DVD'S. Download and install IMGBURN and under their Help section, has step by step guide to do what ever you want. HTH. ImgBurn - Download Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
Plastic Nev Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Hi as DSTM says, you will need to install some third party DVD burning software, Windows XP does not have its own, only CD burning software. If the file size is lower than 700MB, you can burn it as a video CD on a CD, to save having to install extra software, just select the VCD option in Windows movie maker. Most DVD players can read VCD disks, and certainly other computers with a CD drive can, though quality may suffer a little. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems?
