Hello All

My old PC is finally failing - just freezes completely with desktop or application open, only option is to hold the start button until it shuts down. Then it generally takes several restarts to actually get it going (and then only with the Ubuntu 9.10 disk in the D drive). Anyway i'm totally happy with Ubuntu for my 'basic' computing needs and am looking for a laptop to use.

Does anyone have an opinion on an Acer Aspire5551A , 3GB memory 250GB hdd, dual core AMD Athlon (£400 from Argos)?

Also it comes with an Acer 3 year warranty, is this ok?

I'll probably get rid of windows and only run Ubuntu will this affect the warranty?

If anyone can recommend a better/cheaper set up I will willingly consider it.

I hope this is posted in the correct forum and many thanks in anticipation.

Thanks Dave.

hi dave that will run Ubuntu fine just one thing though ubuntu hates certain wireless cards I had massive problems myself on that front , so it might be worthwhile looking for a lappy that comes with ubuntu preinstalled so your wireless drivers etc will be there other than that good luck mate

Hi Dave

Thanks for that. I'll see what comes up with Ubuntu loaded but I haven't come across any yet - not been looking in particular though. Hopefully they'll be at the cheaper end pricewise?

Sorry for the delay in replying but I haven't been 'on line' for a while.

Thanks again Dave
