Guest tdubb Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 When do I need to use the /3gb switch? or the /3gb /userva=3030? read somewhere that I need /3gb only when my box has between 1gb to 4gb physical memory only. anything above 4gb I do not need any switches. this is on a virtual machine

Hi, Please read: http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/2004/08/05/208908.aspx You don't use the switch if you have <3GB. -- Jabez Gan Microsoft MVP: Windows Server http://www.msblog.org "tdubb" <tdubb123@gmail.com> wrote in message news:eq0sXSpnIHA.3400@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > When do I need to use the /3gb switch? or the /3gb /userva=3030? > > read somewhere that I need /3gb only when my box has between 1gb to 4gb > physical memory only. > > anything above 4gb I do not need any switches. > > > this is on a virtual machine >
Guest joe Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Re: when to use /3gb switch? I have a virtual machine assigned 4GB of memory. However when I ass the /3gb /userva=3030 switch to boot.ini, the performance is very slow. when i take the switch out it is working fine. The machine is windows 2003 and nothing running on it "Jabez Gan [MVP]" <mingteikg@blizNOSPAMhosting.com> wrote in message news:BC2781D5-4B04-405E-89DB-ED507E68DBB5@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > Please read: > http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/2004/08/05/208908.aspx > > You don't use the switch if you have <3GB. > > -- > Jabez Gan > Microsoft MVP: Windows Server > http://www.msblog.org > > > "tdubb" <tdubb123@gmail.com> wrote in message > news:eq0sXSpnIHA.3400@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >> When do I need to use the /3gb switch? or the /3gb /userva=3030? >> >> read somewhere that I need /3gb only when my box has between 1gb to 4gb >> physical memory only. >> >> anything above 4gb I do not need any switches. >> >> >> this is on a virtual machine >> >

Guest tdubb Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Re: when to use /3gb switch? none. nothing at all. running w2k3 sp1 and all hotfixes. 4GB ram assigned and /3GB /userva=3030 switch very slow performance "Filipe Matias" <filipe.matias@unitek.pt> wrote in message news:%23iBRcWxnIHA.3780@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > tdubb wrote: >> When do I need to use the /3gb switch? or the /3gb /userva=3030? >> >> read somewhere that I need /3gb only when my box has between 1gb to 4gb >> physical memory only. >> >> anything above 4gb I do not need any switches. >> >> >> this is on a virtual machine > Any service on the machine(SQL, Exchange....)
