Hi

Thanks for replies.

After a little research it seems that an inplace upgrade is not possible where you keep all your files , but a custom install is fine as long as you have a liscensed copy of Vista already installed on the Pc and dont mind backing up everything and reinstalling all progs.

If someone could confirm the above findings before i become the Guinea pig that would be great !! :)

I did a upgrade from Vista home premium to Win 7 ultimate but it was the RC1 version of Win 7 and kept all my files I don't know if that makes I difference but I very much doubt it , but also unless you have a lot to back up i'd recommend the clean install anyway , and good luck with Win 7 Kev am sure you love it ( I have it on all my systems)

For some bizzarre reason inplace upgrade is available to go to Win7 HP or Ult but not Pro

I am very happy with custom/clean install just was worried whether that would work off of Upgrade disk :)

Hi Kev, again relevant but only slightly ha ha,

I recently bought a new machine with Windows7 home premium pre installed, but wanted the benefits of Pro, I bought in store at the same time the upgrade key, this allows you to download and install the upgrade to Pro from the Microsoft website.

In other words, you pays your money, and get a fancy box with nothing more than a piece of paper in it. However it is the numbers and letters code printed on said paper that matters.

Hope that helps.

Nev.
