only one connection using RDP

have a Windows 2003 server with Remote Desktop enabled BUT only one user at a

time can login. Should be 2 users . I'm trying to discover why. Both users

trying to login are Domain Admins and Domain Admins are in the Remote Desktop

Group as well as administrator group for the server. I've checked to make

sure that the there are not Deny permissions in Local Policies (btw...this is

a member server). And there are no firewalls connected between users and the

server...and besides, if Admin 1 logs in then Admin2 can not. Likewise, if

Admin 2 is first to login, then Admin 1 can not. very odd. Any ideas?

What error does the second user see?

Make sure the admins aren't using the /console (or /admin) switch to mstsc.

If they are they're all competing for the same session.

Re: only one connection using RDP

Thanks for the reply.

All the Admins are using RDP. the first to login is fine. The second gets

the Remote Desktop message: Remote Desktop Disconnected and then 3 notes:

1. remote connection may not be enabled (it is) 2. Max number of

connections exceeded ( only one logged in) and 3. network error occurred

(unlikely since any one of the Admins CAN login if they are first). Very

strange.

Re: only one connection using RDP

I'm now leaning toward that the problem is in the Licensing of the Remote

Desktop/Terminal Server. I don't know what has happened but my guess is that

one of the Domain Admins may have attempted to install Terminal Server in

Application Mode then backed out of it.....or, something that caused the

licensing to get screwed up and now only one is allowed to login at a time.

I'm going to post agains that possiblity. Thanks for thinking about it, 'tho.
