Sebastian42 Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 In Firefox 2.0.0.20 (the latest version that will work in WinMe), the username and password for Virgin WEBMAIL is prompted, but the identical information for an identical login form for Virgin Broadband USAGE is NOT prompted; and the settings for REMEMBERING the login details are ineffective FOR THIS SITE. I have tracked differences between these sites to differences in 'Page Info' in Firefox's Tools menu, but I cannot change the Page Info for USAGE to be the same as for WEBMAIL. I have failed to trigger login-details-prompting by 'artificially' adding them to the stored passwords list. Can someone help me make Firefox prompt the login details for USAGE as it does for WEBMAIL ? Quote
PseFrank Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Hi Sebastian, sorry you've been waiting so long for advice. I'm guessing that at least for some of the other forum members, that they're unsure as to what to advise you to do next. My own suggestion is that you check to make sure that the Virgin broadband site is not on Firefoxes exceptions list...Tools > Options > Security tab...and then under the Passwords section click on Exceptions to see what is on that list. The only other thing to try might be to clear all of Firefoxes recent history...CTRL + SHIFT + DELETE Choose Everything from the time range menu, and checkmark every box before hitting Clear now. Now go to each of your sites and see what prompts you get when logging in. Quote I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :) Need help with your computer problems? Sebastian42 Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 Thank you PseFrank - Virgin broadband site is not on Firefox's exceptions list. Your suggestion for clearing history does not appear to be applicable to this early version of Firefox. Quote
RandyL Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Did it use to work? Is this the first time you used Firefox? If it used to work you could try uninstalling and reinstalling. Old Version of Firefox 2.0.0.20 Download - OldApps.com I'm sure you know if you are using ME and IE6 or Firefox 2.0 then your system and browsers are no longer supported and as such you are at an extreme risk of infection. Do you have an updated antivirus? If so which one? I'm sorry I can't look into this more but I left Windows ME when Vista came out. The same goes for Firefox 2.0. Sebastian42 Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 I have been using Firefox (and WinMe) for a long time and have realised that most annoyances CAN be fixed. The one I have listed in this post I have been living with since I moved to Virgin Broadband in Dec 2008, but I thought I would try to see if there is a solution - as I have found solutions to many other Legacy issues. The extreme risk of infection may be real, but in practice seems to be manageable, as I've had NO glitches with my internet banking and other financial transactions since Dec 2008. I still do a weekly virus definition update on my Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition from early this century. Quote
RandyL Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 It's good to hear you are protected. I actually miss my ME. Once configured properly it worked great for me. I only wish I could help you with yours. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Jelly Bean Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 You must have the "Remember passwords" feature enabled for the browser to remember them. In Firefox 2.0 and above, make sure Tools -> Options -> Security / Passwords -> "Remember passwords for sites" is checked. Additionally, you may have once told the browser to never save the passwords for the site. In Firefox 2.0 and above, check the list under Tools -> Options -> Security / Passwords -> Exceptions.
