2003 Enterprise R2 SP2 so slow that it is unusable.

I have installed 2003 Ent R2 SP2 on one of our BL460c with dual quads and

16GB of RAM. It takes for ever for a user to log in and then when they do

get it the system is so slow it is unusable and this is with only one user on

it. We have a farm with 4 other terminal servers and they are all fine.

Only difference with this one is the others where installed using SP1 media

the SP2 installed after and the other are running off of DL380 servers. I

have also reinstalled the OS and every app to be the exact same as the other

servers and no difference. I am our of ideas. Seems to me to be something

with maybe roaming profiles or folder redirection that we use.

Just a shot in the dark but when ever a machine is acting really slow and

dooesn't seem to be doing anything, cpu idle and low memory usage, i usually

check the network connection. Framing, CRC errors, broadcast storms, or even

bad drivers will slow down a machine without any real symptoms. Since these

things are handled at the network card you don't see any symptoms in windows

except a really slow server. Check your switch for errors and excessive

broadcasts.

Agreed and already thought of. Our SCOM server would alert us if there was a

problem with the switch receiving errors as the main switch with the blades

is set to send traps even on info events. I used the lastest softpak from hp

to install all the drivers so they are up to date, I have also made sure I

have the latest firmware as well. It definately appears to be a MS issue as

I have even pulled the drives and put them in a different BL460 and still the

same problem. I just can't seem to figure it out.

RE: 2003 Enterprise R2 SP2 so slow that it is unusable.

Figuring it was a network problem I disabled the HP Teaming for the NICs and

the problem went away. Have now configured teaming only for fail over.

Problem only occues when NICs are teamed for Load Balancing and fail over.

Suspect a bug in HP latest Network config utility software. Going to call HP

Tech Support on Monday to see if they have any solution to this, but atleast

now I know what is causing it.
