07tonzpau Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 (edited) Hey guys, I'm using an ASUS G1S Notebook, It has Mobile Intel® 965PM Express Chipset. G1S Specs http://usa.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=E6B2OaIoGUk3U7Or&content=specifications Running a T7500 processor. Current Processor Specs Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 Merom 2.2GHz 4MB L2 Cache Socket P 35W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80537T7500 What i'm wondering about are my upgrade options. What has to match up? Ie Voltage Socket Type Thermal Design Power And what are the Specs of my computer that determine these requirements? Also, any suggestions on which processor to choose would be welcome :D I don't need the best processor so a balance between price and performance would be great ;) Oh and i think i've gotta be careful of heating issues too! =P Thanks for all your help! RandyL Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I thought it was explained here. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/graphics-cards/10293-upgrading-my-graphics-card.html If you want to upgrade you need to buy a new notebook. If not please explain before posting more. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. BeeCeeBee Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 In fairness that linked thread was about GPUs and the member did ask about processors at the very end and whether the same applies. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
07tonzpau Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 Yeah and since i didn't get a reply i thought i had better make a new post which clearly explains my new dilemma rather than make the gurus deal with the slew of questions bombarding that other one hahah. So Basically i've researched all day and found out its the Chip-set and socket type that determines the compatibility, mine being a 965PM Express Chipset and Socket P. What i'm still unsure about it whether my 965PM Chipset is compatible with a Penrym Processor or only Merom. For example, could i use the Intel T9400 or P9500? Quote
07tonzpau Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 Also, is the X7900 which is a Merom better than either of those? If so that'd solve a whooole lot of questions hahah Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 It is a notebook. I doubt it is upgradeable.I am with RandyL on this one,you would have to buy a new notebook of higher specifications. I would upgrade the RAM to 2-4 gig wich would speed the notebook up considerably. Your running a dual core CPU,adding the RAM would be the best idea. Synapse Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I wouldn't bother with even looking at Xtreme CPU's. Asus have a BIOS update for your system, version 300 which adds Penryn CPU compatibility, thats the 45nm ones. Yours is a 65nm. If it was mine, and I happened to have access to T9*** Penryn mobile CPU I would probably try it after a BIOS update. But I wouldn't go out and buy one. Leave it be, save yourself a lot of time, money and possibly and trashed mainboard. Quote
