WINS: How to remove IP addresses from a [1Ch] Domain Controller re

Recommended Posts

OS: Windows Server 2003 SP2

Hub and spoke replication topology: 11 WINS servers installed on domain

controllers.

16 domain controllers pointing to those WINS servers.

For the 11 DCs with the WINS service installed, only the Primary WINS Server

setting is set with their own IP address.

The 1C record for my domain has 25 IP addresses with old IP addresses and

old domain controllers that do not exist anymore.

I try to figure out how to remove some IP addresses from this 1C record.

Find the OWNER of each record (in WINS MMC) and delete it there.

If you don't want to do that or can't, then take ownership of the records

on a WINS server and then delete them.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I am actually talking about one record. The 1Ch record for the NetBIOS name

of the domain.

This record contains 25 IP addresses (an array of IP address) and I would

like to find a way to remove some IP addresses from this record.

Remove it and they will re-register. (Without looking) those are the

Domain Controllers (0x1C). 0x1D would be the Master Browsers

(on each subnet).

If you are REALLY concerned after removing it you could do the

following on EACH DC:

nbtstat -RR

Hello,

So this is the only solution. I was expecting to find another one...

That's fine to me.

Thanks for your time.
