muppet rebecca Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Okies here's the thing and I don't know why my computer these past couple of days has started doing this. Whenever I load up the computer and go on skype or msn or any instant messaging type service the internet works fine yet when ever I go on a browser I just get a white screen for like 10 minutes before a page loads up or it says the server isn't connected. Now I have broadband with modem connection and the longest it's took before to load a page up is 1 minute never 10 minutes. Another thing would be I have to keep refreshing an internet page to get it up or switch the modem on and off to get it up. Also when I go in network connections I have 3 that come up a 1394 connection, ethernet (which is the one I've got) and a realtek family connection. Any ideas? Quote

Are they all up to date?Maybe time to give it a scan it could be malware related. How long ago did you have this problem? Have you tried a System Restore back to a time when it was working? muppet rebecca Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 I've tried a system restore point and it hasn't worked.....Also I have windows firewall, spybot - SD resident and avira guard.....Everythings up to date and done a spybot search earlier...it only found 2 doubleclick things.....I could try a full system scan with malwarebyte's and avira before I go to bed.... Jelly Bean Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Hey MB. Have you tried disabling some addons? Have you added any new addons in the past few days? Many addons are not needed, try disabling some of them, time consuming I know but this could possibly be a cause. You can always re-enable them if they are required. EDIT:This may help: Internet Explorer does not start or stops responding Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
muppet rebecca Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 I've done another system restore point and firefox and internet explorer are working however opera wont open and keeps coming up with a module 10 error....any ideas? Quote
Synapse Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I think it is to do with your Opera preferences. Best way around it is to uninstall Opera, delete any remnants of the profile, reboot and reinstall. Do a Windows Update check before reinstall btw. Quote
muppet rebecca Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 It can't be opera only based though because firefox keeps saying it's server is down and I have to click the try again button whereas, internet explorer just keeps coming up with there's is no internet connection and the diagnostic thing. I've done a last good known configuration settings thing and it seems to have gotten the internet back up again but it wont be permanent. I'm going to do an online scanner using eset because avira wont scan due to a module missing on it. If nothing works the only thing to do would be a re-format I'm guessing. Any more ideas? Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 You mentioned that the Firewall blocked the programs, you need to enter the firewall settings and Manually set the permissions, you may have to search and find the programs in C:/ program files when it asks so that you are using the correct .exes. If a Firewall blocks a program, you will have to manually allow it, unless the firewall is set to 'always ask' for permissions. Have you checked that the router (if you are using one) is also set up correctly? muppet rebecca Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 Thankyou dalo that might of done the trick although I daresay the modem needs replacing....It's an old ntl:home one and the ethernet cable doesn't always come up on the lights even if it's plugged in....Always been like it but now it's harder to get it right so it works...... Synapse Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Next time it throws a wobbler run an ipconfig /all from the command prompt to see if you have an ip address. Post the details. Quote
muppet rebecca Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 It's gone back to before where it's taking longer than it should to load up a page......It's took me 30 minutes alone to get this page up so I can post this....I don't know why it's being slower than dial-up....It's broadband not dial-up <.<......Anyways I did the firewall settings thing and it only came up once than it blocked the browser and skype.....Besides it always asks when it blocks something.......It's only windows firewall....I can't see it being the firewall......I've not changed anything for it to act up like it is doing..... I had to delete avira of the computer because it wouldn't scan or check for updates.....pc tools threafire hasn't came up with anything nor has ad-aware either..... It also wouldn't do the eset online scanner earlier....it came up with error 2002.... I'm really at a loss to why all of a sudden the internet has slowed down to the point that it can't open some pages up.....even getting google up is an achievement let alone use it...... One thing that I don't get is that I don't have any problems with using skype as far as the internet is concerned yet everything else keeps trying to make out the computer isn't connected every so often.... Help is very much needed and appreciated...Thankyou Quote
muppet rebecca Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 I'm sorry Synapse.....it quickly flashes up with white text in a black box then disappears again.....Is there another way to get it up? Quote
Synapse Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 No worries, click Start, then Run, then type cmd and press Enter Then type in this and press Enter. You should have a text file on your Desktop with all info in it. I just want to make sure your connection hasn't dropped which would confirm a Windows fault rather than a broadband fault. ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt Quote
muppet rebecca Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 I'm sorry to say it doesn't come up with anything it just comes up with another documents and settings thing two spaces below.....Thanks anyways Quote
muppet rebecca Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 It's given me something now but I can't see any ip address and I can only see loads of computer techno text that I don't understand.... Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Its flashing away as you need to run cmd as an Admin, right click the command prompt and run as administator. then run the ipconfig/all command you need to scroll right to the top and look for: Ethernet adapter local area connection Then IPV4 internet address 192.168.1.** < this is your IP address. muppet rebecca Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Okies this is what it says (shame you can't just copy and past): IP Address ...... 86.18161.228 Is that what I'm meant to have looked for....and thanks the running as myself worked....Strange that it didn't work earlier seeing as I am set as administrator on the computer.... RandyL Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Actually you can copy in command prompt. Click the title bar (you may need to right click) to see the edit>copy menu. If you can't hilight the text you want to copy select "mark" from the title bar menu first. Quote We are all members helping other members.
