Why was the DNS Server service installed as part of the installation of

Hello Nomen,

 

If you promote a server to a domain controller and it is the first one and

you have no DNS server it automatically installs the DNS server, because

AD is based on DNS for working.

As Meinolf said, it is required for AD. Matter of fact, make sure you do not

use your ISP's DNS in the machine's IP properties or expect numerous

problems. DCPROMO probably added the DNS in IP properties as 127.0.0.1.

Change it to the actual IP address of the server. Also, make sure the domain

controller is not multihomed unless you team the NICs. Multihomed un-teamed

NICs can cause numerous problems with domain controller functionality.

 

In addition, all clients MUST only use the server for their DNS address. You

can configure a forwarder for efficient Internet resolution, which this
