Guest onarock Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I have tried to find an answer to this question since early Dec. My laptop (XP) takes forever to shut down.....not the typical shut down problem.... When i click start, and then click turn off computer.....it can take anywhere from 5 to 10 min. before the choices of how u want to shut down appears on the screen........and then it takes quite awhile after you click on shut down... But, if i unplug my laptop, so it is battery powered, it is instantaneous......and a little time to shut down after clicking on the shut down button...... why is this......I know this is a big hint as to what the problem is, but i don't understand it, and can't think of any reason.... please help thanx, k

Guest onarock Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Re: laptop/xp/shutdown problem Yes, i discovered this program in my searches for answers, and installed it........unfortunately i don't know what it does......i even read the instructions and tips.... does this program just work on its own, and fixes things, or is there a report or log that i am supposed to read........i tried to find a log, and couldn't. If it is a work alone program it did not help with my shut down problem....any other ideas........or maybe if u could explain this other program to me.....i may not be running it correctly. thanx k "Gerry" wrote: > http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm > > This suggestion may help. Guest Gerry Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Re: laptop/xp/shutdown problem It's a standalone program. Leave it installed. However, for a solution to your problem we will need to look elsewhere. What is your laptop make and model? How old is it? -- Hope this helps. It's got to be somehow related to how your laptop's power-saving options operate in either situation. That's the only thing I can think of that differ in your description of the problem. Has this always been the case or did it start relatively recently?

Guest onarock Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 RE: laptop/xp/shutdown problem i found a program that helps me with this problem.....it is a free little gem called shut down monster.........if u use it......give the developer some money......he eased my frustration. on a side note, if i unplugged my laptop, the menu to shutdown would come up quickly, but it still took a long long time to shutdown. k "onarock" wrote: > I have tried to find an answer to this question since early Dec. > > My laptop (XP) takes forever to shut down.....not the typical shut down > problem.... > When i click start, and then click turn off computer.....it can take > anywhere from 5 to 10 min. before the choices of how u want to shut down > appears on the screen........and then it takes quite awhile after you click > on shut down... > > But, if i unplug my laptop, so it is battery powered, it is > instantaneous......and a little time to shut down after clicking on the shut > down button...... > > why is this......I know this is a big hint as to what the problem is, but i > don't understand it, and can't think of any reason.... > > please help > > thanx, > > k
