Guest Kryten Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Hi, I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain why this is so.. An application that I run on a couple of W2K3SP2 boxes automatically starts after a reboot, you can tell the application is starting because an item is popped onto the taskbar while the associated services are being started. When this is done a service monitor window is shown on the desktop. Leastways thats what you see if you happen to be standing in front of it logged in as user123 ,<eg> Logged in as user123 via rdp and none of this is visible - to the point that you would never know, without further investigation, that the dratted application is running at all. Does anyone have a clue why this might be? Thank, Stuart

Try connecting using the /console switch. mstsc /console -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest Kryten Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Re: Strange Remote Desktop Issue Hi Dave, Thanks for the reply. I'm rebooting the server in the server room, then logging in locally as user 'abc123' and watching the application start. That is I am seeing the taskbar object then the service status window being created and popped onto the desktop. I then log out and go back to my desk. At my desk I go start/run 'mstsc /console" and hit return, it brings up the remote desktop console and I type in the server name and the account credentials for 'abc123' I connect and get a blank desktop. No sign that the application is running at all! So I log out as 'abc123' and go back down and log in locally as 'abc123' and the view there is exactly what I would expect to see. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks again - this is driving me nuts! Stuart

Guest Kryten Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Re: Strange Remote Desktop Issue Thanks Dave, That article helped get to be bottom of it. I 'thought' I was connecting to the console session, but I wasn't. start/run mstsc /v:computername -console works great! Thanks again, Stuart
