sprint Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 System is a desktop pc with XP + SP3. Processor is an Intel Core2 Duo E8400. I also have Kaspersky internet security installed. For a few days when I have booted up there has been a message from Kaspersky notifying me that a Trojan has been detected and advising me to disinfect it, which I have done resulting in the system being re-booted. However, today there was another Trojan message, but after disinfecting it I was not able to close the system down and do a re-boot either via Kaspersky or by clicking on the normal windows closedown menu, I had to do it manually by turning off the power. However, since then I have not been able to restart the system. It comes up with the ASRock page which then opens that standard Windows page which it stays on but then the screen goes blank and then after a period it come up with the ASRock page again. It just stays in this loop. I have tried restarting it from the last know configuration, but again it just gets stuck in the above loop. I have also tried to do a reset but it make no difference. Can somebody please advise what has happened and how I can sort it? I must stress that I am not a expert so simple advise please. Quote
PseFrank Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Have you tried booting into Safe Mode...Can you boot into safe mode? You will will find the safe mode option in the same menu as Last known good configuration. It would seem that you still have Malware, so if you can boot in safe mode we'll hand you over to the Malware removal guys. Just goes back to the above described loop. Anything else I can try? Quote
PseFrank Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Could you give us the exact make and model of your computer please. Is it an Asus? And also roughly how old it is? Which program/s did you use to try and get rid of the trojan that Kaspersky found? Do you have an operating system disk? (OS) Sorry about the questions... Hi The pc was put together by a local pc shop. It is fitted with a ASRock N7AD-SLI motherboard and the processor is an Intel Core2 Duo E8400. The unit is just under 2 yrs old. I you require further details then let me know. The last recorded Trojan was a TrojanWin32.Patched.kl or hl? I used SpyBots Search and Destroy, but that did not identify anything. I tried to use the free Adaware to do a scan but it was blocked. Following this I had to switch the system off manually and since then I have not been able to re-boot it. Quote

Do you have a Windows XP CD for your computer as you may need to recover the windows or may need to start again with a fresh copy of it Seedy102 Quote “It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.”― Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club http://www.geekstogo.com/downloads/unite_blue.png Need help with your computer problems? KenB Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 You could d/l Knoppix from another machine and burn it to a CD. Knoppix is a remote O/S bootable from CD. It also has Clam AntiVirus which will enable you to run a check on your hard drive. If the worst happens you can use Knoppix to access your files / data. PseFrank Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 The pc was put together by a local pc shop. I'm assuming that you where not given an OS disk. If this is true you should be able to repair your operating system with a disk borrowed from a friend. (It must be the same version of Windows that you have on your machine) You must however have your own Product Code. Do you have a product code sticker on your computer?
