moworm Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I have a wired network run from a standard (non-wireless) router/modem with broadband, this is supplied by our service provider and is the one supported by them. I have wall mounted network sockets in the office but could do with some wireless connectivity. Is there any device that I can plug into a wall socket network point that will give access to our wired network services (other PCs, broadband etc) I have tried plugging a wireless router (under the advice of PC World) into one of the network points but can only get broadband but not see the other machines on the wired network, on the ones directly using that router. Please can you help. Many thanks Quote
Synapse Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 You can use a second router by switching off its DHCP and assigning it a different IP address to prevent it clashing with your main router IP address. Its not an elegant solution and I'd recomend you either 1) Swap your main router for a wireless equivalent model - ask your provider if they can supply so that they will still support it. 2) Buy a wireless access point. They are fairly easy to setup but do need a little understanding of IP's as they often have an ip in the range 172.***.*.1. Meaning for setup purposes you need to talk directly to it and so set your PC to a manual IP. Try your ISP first :) Quote
