starttomove Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I was thinking of replacing the internal hard drive on my Packard Bell Easy Note L4012. I have done some research so far into replacing my hard drive but I just want to confirm exactly what kind of hard drive I should upgrade to. My laptop I believe is 5 years old and after looking under System Information the name of the hard drive came up under Name as Intel 82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controllers -266FF. I've been having trouble distinguishing between whether it is either a PATA or SATA type of drive but I believe it is a PATA drive. Also I was wondering about the physical size of the hard drive. I believe the physical size should be around 2.5 inches rather than 3.5 that is meant for desktop computers. So my main questions are is this right? Should I upgrade to a PATA hard drive? If so is the size of 2.5 inches correct? Should there be any other factors to consider before I buy a new hard drive? Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Hello there. I have tried a search and cannot find your Notebook specs. intel 82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controllers -266FF a driver download or a hardware driver. PATA/ATA Most Laptops/Notebooks take a 2.5 HDD and not a 3.5,3.5 is for a computer. An older machine may not handle lets say a 250 gig HDD,I would possibly go upto a 160 gig HDD.However it would help if you could post the system specs here so we can judge a little better as I said I cannot find system specs online. You could post the hard drive serial number here and we could do a search and see which HDD would be suitable for you. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
mike8888 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 hello hello, You will need a 2.5" hard drive(for laptops). The spciefic one you need is called an IDE hard drive which is also known by other names such as ATA, PATA, UDMA and DMA-all of which refer to the same type of hard drive which has two rows of connector pins. To be sure, remove your old hard drive and input the model number into google. I hope that helps. good luck Quote
