sagra Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Can someone please tell me how I can see what files are on one drive and not on a second drive, regardless of what folders the files are in? In other words I want to know what files are anywhere on one drive and that are not anywhere on the second drive....and I need to be able to move those files to the second drive. So far any program I have found will only compare by folder and not by the whole drives in general. Anyone's help with this would be most appreciated. This seems like a function that many people would want, so they could have at least one copy of every file they own (that are spread across multiple external drives) all on one large drive for the sake of archiving. I am using Windows 7. computer is an HP with an AMD Athlon II quad core 630 processor. Thanks in advance for any help. Bob Quote

You have at least one external hard drive containing data, some of which matches whatever is on the internal drive, you wish to compare the two drives and then see if there are files on one drive that are not on the other. Am I correct? As far as I am aware, this would be quite a difficult thing to do in one go and personally do not know of any software capable of doing it. BeeCeeBee Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Try this for a quick work around. Open up the two drives side by side. Now pick a folder where you have data on both. Try moving the entire contents from one to the other. If the file is not already there it will be added.If it is there you will be asked if you want to overwrite (replace ) it. If you are pretty sure they are identical you can say yes or even yes to all. Once that is done you can go back and do the reverse. Now you should have 2 identical folders.
