I used my Dell Insperon 6400 laptop on vacation in a hotel, had problems connecting with hotel Wifi, but eventually suceeded. I started my laptop after loading lots of pictures, and upon opening, all my documents, folders and photos have dissapeared. Its as if i have just purchased the laptop. I have tried 'system restore' the laptop but nothing has happened. The laptop is around 3 years old. I use XP Home 2002 as the operating system. Can anyone help as really need to get hold of my documents and photos.

I saw another thread with similar probs, he was advised to go to start/ Run/ and type in .doc .jpg

When I do this I get warning message Windows can´t find either.

Help please !

John.

I have a feeling that during your attempt to fix the wifi problem you may have created a new profile. Go to your control panel and, under "users" see if there is anything new. It is possible that you are logging in on that new profile. If it turns out to be the case you can always access the old profile or at least the data through safe mode.

Hi John,

It may well be as Beeceebee suggests or a corrupt user profile.

I assume you meant the thread here-

http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/windows-vista/10373-everything-has-dissappeared.html

Did you follow that and have a look at the link provided by KenB?

This one-

Fix a corrupted user profile

it may be of help to you.
