I must have done somthing wrong when i installed but i dont want to have to do a total reinstall again! Is there a way to remove this old version as its taking up a lot of space!! Plastic Nev Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. It looks like a new partition has been created for the new Windows 7 install. If that is the case, you may be able to delete the old partition that contains XP but not sure, so please wait for other replies as the new partition will need to be renamed as "C" at some point, and I am not too sure about doing that correctly. A bit late in the day, but when the W 7 was installed the drive should have been reformatted first. However if you wanted to save all other data without backing up to another storage medium, then perhaps that is why it wasn't reformatted. That though has lead to the position you are in. Nev. ErikAlbert Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) You didn't install Windows 7 properly, so there is no other way than re-installing Windows 7 again. You can't fool around with an operating system, that's not the same as installing any other software. You are learning it the hard way, that's what's happening. James10 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 It will probably be better if you take your pc to an IT service company, they'll safely remove the XP Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) When you are installing more than one OS you need to use this in addition:- To get both XP and Windows 7 as an option at the boot screen you can use the free utility EasyBCD 1.72 or their new 2.0 Beta. (the Beta one requires registration) @ ErikAlbert, if you cant help with an issue then dont get involved as your post is completely irrelevant Edited October 14, 2010 by Dalo Harkin Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
