Hinesy2k5 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Hi, I have just bought a Samsung B2230H Monitor and The Monitor didn't come with a DVI-D Cable and I don't know where to find out whether I need a Single or Dual Link Cable to Connect to my Radeon HD 4550 Graphics Card? Can you Please Help! I have always felt fairly useful when it comes to computers but in this instance I am completely useless. Quote
PseFrank Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Hi Hinesy2k5, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Your new monitor has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. A single link cable connected to your Radeon card supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1200. A dual link cable connected to your Radeon card supports resolutions up to 2560 x 1600. I see no advantage in using the dual link cable. I've reached this conclusion just by swatting up on the specifications. So you may want to hang on for someone with more knowledge to post before making your decision. Quote I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :) Need help with your computer problems? Dalo Harkin Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 On the back of the 4550 cards there should be a DVI and a VGA cable, if you have any adapters you can run one DVI and one VGA. Is this your monitor? shows both VGA and DVI http://bebefore.com/ci/10274/samsung-syncmaster-b2230h-2.jpg Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Hinesy2k5 Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 Yes that is my monitor, I am currently using a VGA to DVI Cabe but I want to use a DVI to DVI Cable. As I a new to DVI, I would like help to know which type of DVI connection I should use? When I google DVI it comes up with several different options and I can't afford to be buying several different cables. Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 As long as its Male to Male it doesnt matter on the brand, just get the cheapest DVI cable - Google Product Search Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.

DSTM Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I have 4 different brand Flat screen Monitors, and they all take 18+1 males. This one is pretty universal. http://i52.tinypic.com/20krbwg.jpg Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
