My daughter has an old Thinkpad R51 (series 1830), she's broke 2 already so we're not getting her a newer one until she learns how to look after them....she's 36 now...she should no better ! :)

when we got it her it had a vertical line of what looked like dead pixels about 2 thirds across the screen, not sure if this is relevant ?

The problem we have is every now and again the display goes funny , the screen splits and the right 3rd of the screen displays on the left, and the left 2/3rds on the right.

There is a switch on the bottom of the lappy that switches from lappy display/separate monitor, which seems a bit loose and seems to slide a bit too easily.

Could this be the problem ?

if not, is this screen or Graphics issue ?

If it's a graphics issue, does anybody know if this comp just has integrated graphics, or it has a graphics card that can be replaced.

I'm working away atm so cant take a look at it myself

Thanks in advance,

Russ

Hi.I'm thinking possibly, the wrong Drivers have been installed.

Check Device manager, uninstall the present Drivers, and install the latest correct Drivers.

Failing that,Looks like Screen or related damage, due to normally, picking it up by the Screen.

I seriously doubt it is Graphic Card related.:)

Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
