I have Cyberlink Power Director eight and when I click play, I can hear the sounds but not see the picture. How do I correct this please? Also it runs slow.

Also I notice in the bottom right hand corner, three white boxes called Haali Media splitter have appeared, what are they please?

Hi. You most likely need codecs.

Haali Media Splitter has been suggested as a Trogan on some sites.

I would uninstall both if it were me.

I would install VLC Media Player, which has it's own Codecs and will play almost anything.

VLC Media Player - Download

Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.

Did you mean Trojen? I have K-Lit codec pack on at the moment, should I un-install that please?

Don't uninstall K-Lite Codec pack. You need those Codecs.

See if VLC will play the Video in question.

Yes I meant Trojen (not a dangerous one, but an invasive one) I read.

Trojan/Trojen is spelt different in different Countries.

The K-Lite Codec pack should be OK, also from what I can find out the HAALI media splitter is part of the K lite pack anyway.

I would think perhaps some part of Cyber Link may have become corrupted and if you have the program I would uninstall and then reinstall it.

Failing that the VLC Media player is a good alternative as suggested by DSTM.

I still have some video's on there that haven't been converted yet. I don't want to lose them, how do I save them before re-installing Cyberlink? Many thanks.

Hi again, now I have had chance to have a good look round I see that the Cyberlink PowerDirector 8 is actually a full video editor program. the VLC media player is just a player and that is all.

Now for any work in progress Cyberlink PD8 should have put all project files in a folder of it's own and will be labelled as a project file for each. I suggest creating a new folder and name it as something you can remember easily such as PD project files, then open Power Director 8 and find the files from the file menu, then move them or better just copy to the new folder you created. Once you have them safe, then you should be able to uninstall the original Power Director 8 and then reinstall it.

You may find the original project files and folder still intact, or if the folder was deleted with the uninstall you can bring them back from the new folder you created.

Hope that helps.

Also I did find that the Haali Media Splitter is a part of the K lite codec pack, so if you need the pack then leave the Haali alone. It is actually quite hard to remove anyway as I have since found out.

Have checked the K-Lite pack and noticed the box for Cyberlink is checked (green tick). Should I uncheck it?

Also where do I find this Cyberlink folder? Many thanks.

I don't have or know this software, but with Cyber link Power Director open, click on "File" on top left, with most programs you should see an option to "open" or open an existing file, this will normally take you to that folder where work in progress is stored.

If you can list what shows when you click File it may help.

In the mean time I will try and find out a bit more about this program for you.

Just to add, I have now found that the software does have a help forum of their own, you may be able to get help there concerning the sound but no picture fault without having to uninstall it and then reinstalling. have a look here-

Hi thanks for that. I will try to untick the box to see what happens. If not, then i will have to try and re-install Cyberlink. My cousin said I should get rid of K-Lite Pack and install ffdshow. Is this a good idea?
