W2K3 TS CAL´s in W2K TS License Server

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a W2K TS and W2K TS License Server in my environment.

I will replace the W2K TS for W2K3 TS and I would like to know if I can

install the W2K3 TS Licenses in the Windows 2000 Server TS License Server?

Is there any incompatibility?

Thanks.

That won't work. A 2003 TS must connect to a 2003 TS Licensing

Server. You can install the 2003 TS Licensing Services on the same

server as the 2003 TS (doesn't need to run on a DC anymore).

A 2003 TS Licensing Server can be used by both W2K and 2003 TS, so

you can consolidate your TS Licensing Server on the 2003 server, if

you want to.

No, not if you want to use them on a 2003 TS.

You can install them on a W2K TS Licensing Server, but then they

will be automaticaly downgraded to W2K TS CALs. Reason is that 2003

TS CALs come in 2 flavours, Per User or Per Device. A W2K TS

Licensing Server doesn't know what a Per user license is.

You must have a 2003 TS Licensing Server.
