I am having trouble getting my PC to display on my monitor. Last night i switched the PC off as usual, but when coming to turn it on this morning, i had no display, but the computer started up. I currently have a JVC tv/monitor. I have tested the tv/monitor by plugging my laptop in via a VGA cable and my laptop works perfectly on the screen. Would this mean its definatly a graphics card issue?

So are you using the onboard video or do you have an add in card?

have you tried clearing the CMOS which is removing the battery thats on the MOBO for 30 seconds and then reinserting it (do all this while the PC is off)

I havent tried that, but i can tell you i am not hearing the post beeps. I have tried taking the RAM out stick by stick and turning the PC on but still nothing works.

Dont worry about the beeps for now.

you said in the first post that you turned the PC on and it came on (so by that do you mean the lights on the MOBO etc?)

So if you remove the battery and wait for 30 seconds and then reinsert it, the MOBO goes back to how it was when the MOBO came to you (factory default)

so it 'should' work unless there is a hardware fault

If doing as Dalo suggests still does nothing, can you tell us exactly what you see at start up?

You can do this with the cover off, but do not touch anything.

If all you see are the fans starting up but nothing else, at a guess it could be the power supply faulty, or even the mother board or both.

An inspection of all the capacitors on the mother board while you have the cover off will not hurt, but if you see any gunge from the bottom of a capacitor, bulging top or split and leaking gunge then it is more than likely the mother board, which also may have taken the power supply with it.

If all looks OK, a test of the power supply may show something up, a multimeter will be needed for that, or perhaps a known good power supply to swap in.

Nev.

It's easier to test a PSU with a paperclip (plug the paperclip into the GREEN and one of the BLACK GROUND wires) you have to connect something to the PSU (I use a fan on one of the Molex') plug it in and see if the fan turns if not the PSU is dead
