rossco242 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Hi, I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW20EF and am having the same problem as described in this thread: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/laptops-and-monitor-issues/2826-laptop-battery.html. I have disabled isbutility and am no longer getting the message: The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer. click "OK" to enter Hibernate mode, and remove and reinsert the battery. See the electronic VAIO® user guide for more infiormation about using the battery. However, my laptop is not detecting any battery. I've removed it and reinserted it, but no joy. Also, after shutting down, the computer won't start until I've removed and reinserted. This is driving me crazy. I'd REALLY appreciate some assistance. Many thanks in advance, Ross Quote
RandyL Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I'm guessing this is not a Sony approved battery. Quote We are all members helping other members. rossco242 Posted September 23, 2010 Author Posted September 23, 2010 This is the battery that came with the laptop. I bought it last January. The laptop's now running ok. However, there's a red cross over the battery symbol. When I unplug the laptop the cross goes away, but the symbol is empty and it says "Unknown remaining". Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Did you buy the laptop new or second hand? It still sounds like an unapproved battery. However if new, there could be a hardware fault within the power supply/battery management side of the motherboard or power board. (some laptops have the power supply side direct on the MB, some have a separate board) I take it the battery runs the machine with the power cord unplugged, if so, run it till the battery goes flat, then plug the power back in and see if the battery charges up, if it does charge then it may be only a minor fault with the circuitry. Also, considering it is not yet twelve months since you bought it and if new at that time, see if the warranty will cover a repair from the dealer were you bought it. Nev.
