mij Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I have googled this problem and tried the 'click & drag' methods and have closed whilst holding/not holding the Ctrl/Higher case key/s down and it hasnt worked. I have tried the Wintidy progarm but that doesn't work either. I'm unsure of editing the registry so I haven't tried that. There is another program that sort of works but it's a bit obvious in it's carrying out its function in that it allows I E to open small then flicks it to a larger window after. Does any one know a sure fire cure for this common problem? I have two MSexcel shortcuts that will go to the LHS of the screen when ever they are opened. It's driving me nuts! Jim Quote
mij Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Groannnnnnn ............ The problem above is two really sorry about that... 1) Internet Explorer opens in a smaller than full size window and having tried all the google proffered solutions (bar editing the registry that is) nothing works. 2) Two shortcuts to excel worksheets ideally located on the RHS of the screen will suddenly get moved to the LHS no-matter what options are selcted/deselected when the screen is right clicked. I have tried the wintidy program but that seems to have no affect. Cheers jim Quote
RandyL Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Try this for your first problem. Open IE full screen Quote We are all members helping other members. mij Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 Int Exp does not open fullsize Try this for your first problem. Open IE full screen Hmmm this hasn't worked. Maybe I have something not selected/clicked in advanced settings? I say that because what ever I do to one window is done to the previous window. In other words it is only opening the second site in the original window. It doesn't open a second window ... I seem to remember in previous versions older windows that a choice was made to open things in a new window or not. A BTW is that I cannot see your answer here, I got it by clicking on the mail notification. I have noticed this before with this site. Perhaps there is more wrong with this computer than I realise. cheers jim Quote
RandyL Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 The last thing is a site problem. We await a software update. Try deleting temp files but I doubt that will help. I'm not exactly sure what you mean about "it is only opening the second site in the original window." Yes there used to be the option to open in a new window and open maximized. Open maximized never worked. I believe it was in the taskbar properties. The new window was in Internet options if I remember correctly. Unfortunately my Vista got fried by lightening so I can't check that or the IE7 I had on it. I only have IE8 on my Windows 7. As for my instructions you need to open a new instance of IE. Once you have one Window open don't open a second by clicking a link. Instead use the IE icon in the quick launch area if you have it enabled or use a different IE shortcut to open a second instance of IE. Drag the window larger. Don't close it. Open a new window. Drag it larger. Maximize the second window. Maximize the first window. Close the first window. Close the second window. Open a new window. The instructions for IE have to be exact. Sometimes I have to do it a few times with IE. Now there are two other options that might work but those steps have worked for me hundreds of times. System Restore. Or How to Reset or Restore Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer 7 It works for IE8 too. Quote We are all members helping other members. mij Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 I don't know why it didn't work the first half a dozen times but I have been fiddling here in adv settings in properties. I set windows to 'cascade' (somewhere?) and that meant I could get the two windows open at the same time. Anyway it has worked! Now that is great!!! Very many thanks!! Cheers jim Quote

mij Posted April 30, 2011 Author Posted April 30, 2011 Is there a reason that this post is coming to my email inbox every morning? There is also another question which I'd love to get answered that has mystified me. When I last visited here last year I had a post saying I was banned from this site. As you may understand I was baffled - this has always been a resource that I happily endorse and support. It enables me to keep this machine and system operational. But no matter how I tried to contact the peeps here I was met with an abrupt notice that said I was banned from this site. What happenned? Why did it suddenly allow me access again? jim Quote
RandyL Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Hi jim. Unfortunately when a spammer makes a post in a thread an email is sent if you subscribed to it. Of course we delete the spam so you don't see it. I see that a spammer did post yesterday. You were never banned jim. We did put up some blocks on certain IP ranges for a while. You must have been in that range. Sorry about that. We were being flooded with spam by one of the worst bots I have ever seen. They were coming in faster than we could delete them. I had to block the worst IP ranges just to slow it down until I could figure out what it was and how to stop it. I sincerely apologize as we would never ban you.
