Only getting 1/5 of internet speed. Please help

Had virgin 50 mb installed last week. Have had them round twice since to try and fix the problem with no success, they didn't seem to actually know that much.

 

speedtest.net is showing between 8.5 and 9.5 every time. Someone else's laptop with win xp is getting the full 50.

I have this computer The irush PC @ Novatech running windows 7.

 

What could the problem be?

Connect with a a cable rather than wireless if you are not already doing that.

 

Check the driver for your ethernet adapter, there may be an update. You'll probably have to download the latest one from your motherboard or PC manufacturers website.

 

Also, if neither of those suggestions work, hook your PC direct to the cable modem rather than a router, and see of there is any change.

Did they install the new Modem, its black looks oval shaped from the front (becuase the old ones only support MAX of 20GB)
