hey i wonder if some one can help, ive just bought a Intel SL9KA Dual Core Pro Pentium D 925 3GHz processor socket 775 and ave just swapped it for my Intel celeron 450 2.2GHz socket 775 and all i get is a black screen after the bios has loaded. I only bought it due to this website i were checking my processor on says that pentium D were supported by the same socket type. I dont know if this is due to my motherboard not being compatible. My motherboard is G31T - M5 chip drivers are up to date but i dont know if the bios is, once i had installed the P,D processor and switch on my pc my fan/heatsink starts at 4400rpm the processor itself stays at 37'c i left it for a good 10 minutes to c if the temperature rose and it stayed the same so if anyone has a solution or a reason why this may be happening please let me know

my many thanks to anyone who can help

Looking at the ECS website, your board isn't listed, however Google says it exists. First thought is that is was built for a specific range of branded machines. If that is so, you'll need to post a bit more info about it so we can check it out.

Did you pull the CMOS battery or reset the BIOS after changing the CPU?

Have you checked and re checked, reapplied thermal paste etc?

yeah synapes its an made for an acer aspire AG3760, on thew mobo it says G31T - M5 V:1.0. i think this system has been discontinued tho because i cant find info anywhere in the internet, not even on there website, if you need the serial no for the mobo its MBSA5090139160051D9100 or V72106091620234 there the 2 no on the stickers (ave just google'd them and theres no info)

yes dalo i spent around 2 hours reapplying the paste removing it same process just in-case i hadent given it enough and no i didnt take out the CMOS battery i were thinking about it any yes i reset the bios settings, the mobo picks up the processor in bios system info:- Processor- Pentium D 3GHz - FSB 800MHz so i know it knows the processor is there its just doesnt boot windows and the fan instantly rases to 4400rpm, with current processor it sits btween 1200 - 1500rpm

ive just flashed my bios now so i will check it again and will let u know if that worked

If its showing in the POST screen then it wont be the CPU, if you reset the BIOS then it all goes back to default, RAM speeds, fans at full speed etc as none of the cool n quiet technology will be enabled (as you have reset the BIOS you will have to redo any custom settings like this)

Make sure that the HDD is listed in the BIOS as the 1st boot device and disable the 2nd,3rd,4th options etc.

Let us know how you get on

already done that that were the first thing i checked when i installed ma new processor after realizing windows went loading. Everything that ave checked is all ok, registering everything properly voltage is ok to cpu, ram detected, hdd detected, fan speed goes throught the roof tho, i am just assuming like but i dont think ma mobo is compatible with duel core but i cant see that being the case. The bios is been made especially for this system from acer/American Megatrends would that ave anything to do with it?? they aint any updates for the bios aswell ave already checked

From looking at the ECS website there are BIOS updates:-

ECS Web Site > Click on the downloads tab and then there are some little circle just below the download tab that say BIOS.

There are 2 updates listed so go for the top one (newest)

I take it you know how to update a BIOS as it can render the board useless if you do it incorrectly :(

Danny, don't use that BIOS update posted - it's for a G41T, yours is G31T, different chipset board. Also, any BIOS updates should come from Acer as it is a non standard board.

I reckon I have worked out what is happening. If you look at the CPU support list for that series board, they are all newer Core 2's, Dual Core E series and Quad's, see link below for an idea of what I am saying.

Your SL9KA is a generation behind and will not work in that board.

If it was mine I would go back to the ECS website, have a look at all the G31 boards and choose a chip that they all support. Course your board is not listed, but is missing from the list. It will no doubt be similar if not almost identical.

By the way, is your Acer a G3670, I can find that one on their website.

Thanks Synapse, I didnt double check my post.

Danny, I would contact ECS and see what they say, while the board may be in an ACER computer it is ALWAYS better to get any updates DIRECT from the manufacturer.

GPUs for example are predominantly from either ATI or NVIDIA while there are names such as ASUS and GIGABYTE that put their own coolers and overclocks on them you still get the updates from ATI and NVIDIA, they would be listed on the ASUS and GIGABYTE sites but they are just mirrored from ATI and NVIDIA.

Contact ECS as I am sure that someone else would have had the problems you have
