KenB Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 device driver software not sucsessfully installed The driver software does not uninstall when you take the drive out. Was this the reason for replacing the original drive? How did you uninstall the drivers? RandyL Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Looking at the different models of Pavillion dv8000 at the HP site I can't seem to find that Windows 7 is supported by HP for these models. I also don't see any dv8000 series that HP supports an upgrade for. I take it the reason you tried the new optical drive is because the original did the same thing. Did you do an upgrade installation of Windows 7 or did you purchase the full version? Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. ratzorizzo Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 My bad - I thought computers did everything The driver software does not uninstall when you take the drive out. Was this the reason for replacing the original drive? How did you uninstall the drivers? The reason for replacement was the faceplate for the drive never existed (bought this used). I was opening the tray with a paper clip. It was getting old. I bought a gig of ram and (replaced a 256 mb chip) I bought this dv8000 a year ago used and it had the Windows 7 operating system already in it. I DID NOT UNINSTALL THE DRIVERS (RIGHT AWAY) meaning once my problems cropped up I went into control panel / device manager and uninstalled all dvd/cd drivers then restarted (several times) Here is a more accurate description of exactly what waht down. I just replaced my hp dv8000 laptop dvd/cd drive with another drive from a dv8000. On reboot drive software install failed. In control panel HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N ATA device shows device status" This device cannot start. (Code 10) and also in device manager under other devices subcatagory mass storage controller an orange triangle that never appeared before...device status The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). Sounds like some lind of conflict from hell but I have no Idea what the other device/mass storage controller is referring to. Thanks ... the Rat Quote
