mij Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 This machine has Vista 32bit with the CX6600 epson printer/scanner. Today it started playing up and I blamed the driver as the scanner only workes when the 5600 printer driver is chosen. I found (by googling) that the CX6600 was incompatible with Vista. No wonder the presence of the 5600. So I looked for the alternative - easy-print is the answer. Well it downloads ok but it doesn't install. I've tried the routines ..... but nothing has worked. Can anyone here help? Cheers jim Quote
RandyL Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 I looked it up at Epson. That's only a utility for print settings from within an application. Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights XP is the latest OS that the Epson Stylus CX6600 has print drivers for. I do see TWAIN drivers for Vista that might work for the scanner portion of your all in one but not print drivers. Epson Stylus CX6600, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc. mij Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 Thank you for a definitive answer on that. From this I can see that it takes a computer minded person to make sense of these communications. Little wonder it didn't do what I expected it to do. Well for all intents and purposes the 5600 driver worked the scanner and driver until this past week, and that may be more to do with the head cleaning than anything else. Time to reverse and take another look. Many thanks indeed for that. cheers jim Quote
RandyL Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Jim I hope you can get it to work but to be honest you might always have problems if it is no longer supported. I feel your pain as I have had to discard hardware and software after changing to a different version of Windows. Yes that includes a printer and a scanner. You might be able to get drivers from Microsoft Windows updates. Epson has some info on this that I just found. Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights If that link does not work try Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights and scrool down to all-in-ones and click on instructions You may have to uninstall it first if you used the Epson setup CD originally. As always make a a system restore point before uninstalling software or drivers for an easy back to where you were. Quote We are all members helping other members. RandyL Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 You ALWAYS need to install the drivers/software before you connect the printer/scanner (MFD) I would agree Dalo but in this case it appears Epson disagrees as Vista is not supported. Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights states: If your Epson CD does not indicate support for Windows Vista, DO NOT INSERT YOUR EPSON PRODUCT SOFTWARE CD IN YOUR WINDOWS VISTA COMPUTER because the setup program is not compatible with Windows Vista. Instructions for installing additional software from your CD may be available with your driver download. Then if you follow the link Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights it says: Follow these steps to set up your Epson product and automatically download Windows Vista drivers for it from Microsoft:Set up your computer. Connect a USB cable to your computer and then to your Epson product. Turn on your Epson product. After a moment, you see this screen: Either way it's a crap shoot as the printer is not supported on Vista. Quote We are all members helping other members. mij Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 It does include the CX6600 all in one on that site .... but it doesn't want to know when it comes to printing. I suppose I could go back to XPpro - I still have the disk. Or even dual boot and use XP as a printer OS, there is enough space on this disk to build a house! What other alternatives are there? It was printing fine until I messed with the drivers when I had malware problems ..... grrrrrrrrrr. cheers jim Quote
mij Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 I've just thought of another soloution. The Dell computer that this printer was originally matched with is sitting in a spare bedroom doing nothing in particular. It has a wireless card as well. What if I set that up so that it could print as a network printer? It would also give me more space on this desk. Cheers jim Quote
RandyL Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Is your printer a wirless network printer? Are your two computers configured for networking? Does your printer have an ethernet connector? Have you ever networked a Vista machine with a non-Vista machine? Do you have a print server? To be honest I have not networked a printer without the software on both machines so I don't know. mij Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 Is your printer a wirless network printer? No, it requires coupling up to a usb. Are your two computers configured for networking? Not at the moment. Does your printer have an ethernet connector? Mmmmm no .... Have you ever networked a Vista machine with a non-Vista machine? Eeerr .... nope Do you have a print server? No ... To be honest I have not networked a printer without the software on both machines so I don't know. Previously (my only experience) I googled the method and my greatest block was zone alarm. But that was WinXP pro to a Win 98SE. It required making a file on a floppy which was then just loaded into the other machine ...... come to think of it Windows has never made it easier to do anything as one might expect .... On the other hand I'd have to get a new printer, and I might as well jump the five barred gate as well and update both to Win7..... I can't believe I said that! cheers jim Quote
mij Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 FEEDBACK- Yes there is an Epson driver 'in the box' that comes with Vista. It goes by the same name with an (M) with the brackets after the CX6600 (as are other models) There are instructions on the net from Epson on how it is to be loaded and that is simply to delete any and all previous printers. Have the computer on and at the ready. Connect up the printer to a usb port (this port will be called usb001 by the installation process) switch on and click on the 'add new printer' option in the printer control window on control panel (or in device manager), Follow the instructions like clicking on Epson, then the model of the 'all-in-one'. When complete click ok then print test copy. Epson are really fussy printers to install so it is best to get to the Epson instruction page and follow from there. Cheers jim ch Quote
mij Posted October 24, 2010 Author Posted October 24, 2010 There is a driver supplied by Vista for the CX6600 but choose that option in the drop down list, not the one as I said above. My printer now works albeit with a mauve bias. Epson do not do a driver for this printer and Vista. cheers jim Quote
