Compuer doesn't turn on. Need urgent

When I turn my pc on. It makes the noise as if it is starting up but nothing comes on the screen. The monitor light stays on standby and it carries on making this same noise until i hold the power button down to turn t off.

 

Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? It a compaq presario (windows home edition).

Any boot messages ? If not I would try a friends monitor. Graphics card would be my next bet.

i would like hardware dave said try another monitor (if oyu here any beeps post back).

you mention noise a lot what kind of noise where does it sound like its coming from
