Have you tried another keyboard? Sounds like the one you are using has been fried. Is it hard wired or wireless. Does the laptop keyboard work when the other is disconnected?

All this assumes that you are referring to a keyboard and not the laptop itself.

Hi, from what you say it is the laptop keyboard itself and is possibly the space bar button broken, it can only be repaired by a new board if that is the case.

Providing you have all the details of the make and model number plus the Dell service tag number you should be able to buy a replacement keyboard from Dell. It is likely to be a fiddly job to replace it though.

If not sure about doing it yourself, try a local repair shop that has a good reputation.

Agreed while some are pretty easy, if you havent done one before they are a real pain.

Get one off ebay and then as others have suggested give it to a local repair shop

I have replaced one laptop keyboard from instructions found on the net. (Actually I found instructions for removing something else but it required the keyboard removal ) It was an easy job. I then looked at others and found the job would have been far too risky for me to try myself. It just depends on your model etc. The key thing is that nothing is obvious and not to be played with unless you can see specific instructions and are comfortable with them.
