Hi, my first post on the forum.

I have a 3 year Dell Dimension 9200, 32-bit Operating System, Intel Core 2 CPU, 2 gig RAM which has reported an error with the 0 Raid.

I see this an 'error occurred' message in red when my computer boots up. I recently reinstalled windows as I was experiencing problems with my sound, all was good until my computer froze whilst installing some programs and software and rebooted it self to prevent damage.

When the computer rebooted it displayed this message but the computer is still running ok, so far. I have searched the Internet for fixes and although I have found some info it doesn't really provide me with a solution.

This happened when the the computer was under warranty but Dell spoke me through the fix which involved downloading something from their website but any assistance they give me they want charged now

I found some info which suggest problems with Apple and Itunes, Quicktime etc conflict with the Raid on Vista operating systems, I am unsure if this is correct but I was possibly installing one of these when this happened, just can't recall.

Hopefully someone can help with this problem and is my computer likely to stop running because of this error. I have backed up everything before the reinstall so really just need a fix now.

Does it give any additional info on the error? have you looked in event viewer?

The problem with RAID 0 (striped) is that it takes a chunk of data and splits it across the 2 drives. so if you had 10 'chunks' of a file 1,3,5,7,9 would go on one disk and 2,4,6,8,10 on another (this is meant to speed up performance, but in reality its not much)

are you using hardware or software RAID?

Hi Dalo, thanks for your quick reply.

Unsure if it is hardware or software Raid. I think it is Hardware but I would need to check this if there is a way to identify it?

I have looked in Event Viewer but don't really know what to look at. Sorry.....

An error would show as a Red X with and when you click it give additional info.

Are both the drives just plugged into the MOBO and then accessed via the BIOS ?

or are they plugged into a PCI card?

Can't see any red x but I have attached a screen dump.

Sorry, as for the Raid I really don't know. I never heard of MOBO before but think you access through the BIO's.

Would I need to open the computer up to check this?

Ok where the + is next to error, click that and it should expand and show you exactly what the errors consist of.

It will be software RAID (It's easier to configure)

HI, I hace expended the error but it gives several entries. I have looked for an option to save to notepad like you do with hijacklog etc but can't see this.

I have saved another print screen for your perusal, let me know if you want to see the other entries.

You have a few errors in Volsnap which is basically the volume shadow copy service used for volume snapshots and other types of backup If you have XP and Vista on the same machine this is what often wreaks havoc!

As you are using RAID I would turn this off for a start as there have been errors with its compatibility with RAID

You also stated that you reinstalled windows - how did you go about this process, did you use the disks that came with the system or did it have a seperate recovery partition?

You should have a disk labelled drivers/utilities or such which needs to be used for all the drivers needed. can you go into control panel>system>device manager and see if there are any yellow exclamations next to anything.

Hi, I can confirm all drivers are up to date and I think RAID was already off so I have spent a few hours trying to find out more information about this problem. Basically when I googled 'dell 9200 raid error occurred' I found several different forums/sites reporting this problem.

I remember DELL support talking me through a fix years ago when this happened which probably disabled/removed the RAID software as the instructions I followed today suggested I download Intel Storage Matrix viewer version 7.5 or higher.

I installed this and rebooted and instantly received notification in the bottom right icon tray that one of RAIDs was failing so on opening this I right clicked on the error and selected fix or repair, can't recall, but it resolved the problem, for now anyway.......

Glad its sort of sorted, if there was an error showing then I would recommend that you get another HDD as a backup and install it as a standard drive and move any valuable data over to that.

If the RAID does fail in the future (for the performance it gives) I wouldnt bother with it and just use the 1 good drive from the RAID setup and then use the additional drive (I recommended you get :)) as a data storage drive
