On my old 'puter the sort order for a directory listing such as A:/ ... w/be

as such:

t619

t6190

t6191 & so on

on the new 'puter or PC, I get:

t619

t6190

t695

t6950

t6191

......... with other numbers/file names in between

So, it sorts according to the first letter & the second letter (or in this

case number), but then it loses the order. I want (as I had before) all the

t619 series listed together & in alpha/numeric order.

Old system was Windows98 SE, this new system in XP ... not that I think it

should make a difference.

Ideas?

Re: Directory sort order

XP is not the same as Win98 SE as XP has "intuitive filename sorting".

Turn it off with TweakUI

TweakUI - Explorer - Uncheck "Use intuitive filename sorting"

Re: Directory sort order

Or he can use a registry tweak (doesn't really need TweakUI).

TweakUI is the weapon of choice for those who would prefer not to play

around with the registry when making changes that it can easily do and

that it can easily undo.

I am comfortable with making tweaks to the registry, but it's not for

everybody.

Re: Directory sort order

Well guys? I guess I will try the tweak. Although I did my dues with DOS

many moons ago, and I actually did make a correction to my registry in

Windows 98, I just don't feel like playing with it here & now. I did find

within XP, the correct command with no particular directions on how & where

to put it. After all these years of messing with computers, I have had

enough messing around ... better things to do! Will probably tackle tweak

this holiday weekend. Thanks for the help & happy holiday!
