Dear support,

I have a peculiar problem with my C partition on windows 2003 SP2 HP DL380G4

RAID5.

Using windows explorer if click on C: drive the system hangs and nothing

happens. I can only open particular folders using Run command for eg. typing

in the Run window "c:\program files"

Any help on this would be appreciated

regards

What happens when you do this:

- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}

- Type this command:

dir c:\ {Enter}

Have you checked the System Event Log?

(Odds are you will find some type of disk errors there if the drive or

controller is dying.)

Have you tried opening a command prompt?

(See if changing to the root of the C: shows similar problems, or if it is

merely an Explorer issue.)

Are you logged on as the Administrator?

(Might change permission issues)

If possible (and you get this far), what about permissions on the C:\ ?

What methods do you have to repair your hardware RAID5?

(since you cannot use Software RAID5 on the System C: volume.)

How about running ChkDsk /r (fix and recover switch) ???

After that (chkdsk /r) consider a REPAIR install from the original CDROM...

Re: could not browse Root Folder C:\

I see lot of tmp files in C drive but could not delete it. When running

Chkdsk it hangs during the second stage which is indexes.

I think the index is corrupt.

I suspect your file system is corrupt. Here are a couple of

choices:

a) Back up your data (including your EMail files), test your backups,

then re-install Windows on a freshly formatted partition.

b) Connect the disk as a slave disk to some other machine, then

use robocopy.exe to copy every folder to a spare disk.

Post again if you need detailed instructions for either of these

options.
