XP SP3 and Media Center

Recommended Posts

Hi:

I read an earlier article that in one of the later Beta versions that the

SP3 upgrade had rendered Media Center inoperative.

Does anyone know if this current SP3 upgrade has resolved this issue? I

would hate to lose my TV capability.

Thanks

Re: XP SP3 and Media Center

It only affects MCE 2002.

From the Release notes:

"Windows XP Media Center Edition

This issue affects Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002.

If you install Windows XP SP3 on a computer running Windows XP Media Center

Edition 2002 with SP1, Windows XP Media Center Edition may malfunction.

To avoid this, install Windows XP SP2 before you install Windows XP SP3."

In other words, this only applies if you are NOT running MCE at service pack

level two already.

Hi:

Thanks for all your input. I just downloaded and installed SP3 on XP

MCE(2005) and everything went without any known problems at this time. Could

not have been easier.

Quick cursory check indicates all other installed applications also

working fine.

Hi. I got this problem with installing SP3 too. After I installed, my media

center didn't work properly. And I have checked, my PC is a media center

edition 2002 service pack 2. But still when I installed SP3, the problem was

there. And then when I unistalled SP3, the problem with media center is still

there? Why's that? Please help me

Re: XP SP3 and Media Center

Hi:

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with MCE (2002) after

installing SP3. As I stated I have MCE (2005) and everything is working fine

after installing SP3.

You might try reinstalling driver for your TV/Video card or display

adapter. Open Device Manager and right click on Display

Adapter>Properties>Driver Tab.

Hope reinstalling driver will resolve your problem.

Re: XP SP3 and Media Center

I am running MCE 2005 and updated to XP SP3 and now my media center reports

corruped files, crashes and launches a crash report. If you are running MCE i

suggest that you DO NOT UPGRADE to SP3 at this time. Let MS work out the bugs

1st.

**********************************************************************************

Updated my XP Pro MCE (2005) with SP3 from the Windozes Update site.

No glitches here on a HP Pavilion 9000 hardware platform.

If you have problems with SP3, .... suggest you surf thru your running

services.

XP SP3 updated smooth on a 4 year old Compaq Presario 900 too.

Re: XP SP3 and Media Center

FWIW, SP3 and Media Center are working fine here.

I suspect it is something specific to your configuration that is causing you

your issues.

If you post back with more details, perhaps someone can help you.

I've got MCE Edition 2005 with SP2, and everytime I try to install SP3 I

lose my Wireless connectivity. I've installed all the Device updates from

Microsoft and the Device manufacturer and I still can't connect using SP3.

The only resolution was to delete it and go back to the SP2.

Re: XP SP3 and Media Center

Did you try installing the latest drivers for your wireless network card

from the manufacturer (NOT microsoft)?

I wouldn't trust any driver updates from Microsoft/Windows Update,

especially if the manufacturer of the device is still active in producing

updates.
