Hi,

I have an ongoing issue with my Vista laptop where the available memory appears to get less, even if don't use the laptop. It's under 5GB at the moment but only a month ago was 12GB. I've tried to move any documents to an external hard drive, run defrag, pc tune up routine etc etc and I now can't get it above 5GB.... which it totally unacceptable.

Has anyone any ideas on how I can free up some more memory. I'm worried that the whole thing will crash which I can afford to happen as this is my business laptop and I can't afford to replace it yet.

What you are referring to is HDD space not memory space.

Have a look in the Windows C:/ drive and see if there are any programs that you no longer use, you can also do this from the control panel and then add/remove programs and remove any you no longer need/use * DO not remove anything if you are unsure what it does as you may need it

Hi, yeah I've done all the obvious. I've also removed most of the documents I've created on my laptop also photos and music but it's not really made any difference.

I haven't got anything on my machine software wise that I can get rid of. I did wonder if emails might have an impact as I get and send around 100 a day sometimes with big attachments. But I'm sure someone advise that emails are small files and shouldn't make a lot of difference.

Am stumped!

Emails if they are only text are small files. However the attachments will count against your drive space. I assume you use a mail client like Windows Mail. If so those attachments are stored on your drive. If you delete the contents of the inbox, sent items and deleted items folder they will be gone.
