XP SP3 and the $hf_mig$ folder...

Shouldn't the migration folder be empty after SP3? I suspect it left it

untouched in case the user does an uninstall, but if you never wish to

uninstall couldn't you empty $hf_mig$ in addition to deleting the

sp3 uninstall folder? Together they are over a gig (I know, big

deal...). Just wondering...

TIA

The updates folder is left populated, so if you uninstall SP3 the

system state is restored and the Hotfixes are in place. If you're

happy with SP3 then removing the content you mention should

be OK. However don't remove the \ServicePackFiles folder as

it now becomes the first source point for repopulating DllCache.

Re: XP SP3 and the $hf_mig$ folder...

I have been researching this issue, and am confused about one critical

point. Many of the Fixes in my $hf_mig$ Folder have been superseded

by the cumulative Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), which I installed

back in May. A list of all Fixes that are included in Windows XP Service

Pack 3 (SP3) is available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946480.

Hence, it is possible to determine if each Fix remaining in the $hf_mig$

Folder has been superseded by Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3).

Therefore, can I delete every Fix in the $hf_mig$ Folder that is also

included in Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)??? I have not been able

to find an answer to this critical question. Instead, I find vague general

responses like "Do NOT delete '$hf_mig$'".

So will someone please inform me if I can delete every Fix in the

$hf_mig$ Folder that is also included in Windows XP Service Pack 3

(SP3). Thank you.
