Scanning to a network printer/scanner

I've not found any information on the Canon website, regarding compatibility

with with Terminal Server environment. Has anyone had any experience using

NetGear software for a network printer/scanner in a terminal server

environment?

Re: Scanning to a network printer/scanner

I'd be very interested to know if you found any information on this. I am in

the beginning process of adding a scanner to our environment. I was

wondering if the scanner can be attached to a remote PC and then accessable

while that user is running an application via Terminal Services.

Thank you,

Thomas

Re: Scanning to a network printer/scanner

Vera,

Thanks for the information. Based on the data in the link you listed, am I

correct to say that Terminal Services on a Window2000 server will not

support natively a remote scanner. But if I use a software solution such as

RemoteScan, I would be able to have a scanner connected to a remote PC and

the user could run an application on the Terminal Server and the app would

be able to address the local scanner? Also, have you any experience with

RemoteScan and if so, what is your opinion of this product.

Thanks,

Thomas

Re: Scanning to a network printer/scanner

Thank you for the reply. If I understand the information, correctly, it

sounds like I can install the third-party software, for the canon

copier/printer/scanner, on the Win2k3 terminal servers, and the users should

be able to scan to the network printer.

Re: Scanning to a network printer/scanner

That's correct, W2K TS alone won't redirect your scanner.

Yes, I've tested RemoteScan, and I was happy with it.

Yes, that's how it should work. Check the vendor's website for

details about supported scanners, though.

Vera,

Thanks again, I've already sent an email to RemoteScan requesting further

information. I appreciate the tip on RemoteScan.

Re: Scanning to a network printer/scanner

Seems a bit expensive, though. $348 for 1 user?? That could add up real

fast (even with the discount).....

Depends upon how many scanners and users will be scanning.

From my understanding, the licensing is based on MAC address.

If all users are scanning from one TS machine to one XP machine

with the scanner installed, you will only need one license.

Example - 1 TS server (15 users connecting)

scanning is done from application on the TS server

Scanner installed on XP workstation

Only need 1 license.
