I am logged on to my win 7 professional as administrator but am being denied access to certain folders in explorer. These folders have a small padlock on the folder icon so I assume they are locked somehow. Can I unlock them ?

Also on certain other folders, (without a padlock) when I click on them I get a message that says "you currently dont have permission to access this folder, click continue to permanently get permission" When I click on continue I get the same "you have been denied permission to access this folder" popup.

I have checked the security tab on the folder properties and it states that I have full control

Any ideas anyone please.

Which folders?

I have discovered that the folders I am being denied access are folders that I am not the owner of (system owned). When I change ownership to me (bit of a long winded process), I am able to access them.

Indeed system folders are protected by that fashion in Windows 7. A good thing really as it prevents accidental deletion, and better prevents the damage that could be done by those not fully aware that those folders and files are there to ensure the system works correctly. I hold my hand up and say "Yes, in the early days, I did that once in XP". It meant a full reinstall to get back up and running again.

Gaining ownership of those files may be a long winded process, but again it prevents the wrong thing being done by the raw beginner.
